How to Take Charge of Your Seasonal Allergies

As the season progresses flowers start to bloom, the trees get ready to blossom and the pollen starts to fly, those runny noses and itchy eyes aren’t too far behind. Not everyone suffers from seasonal allergies but there are many people out there who do and as much as we hope for nicer weather after a long winter, the seasonal allergies that come along with it are not so nice.
With each changing season comes different types of allergens, but the symptoms can look the same. Some of the many symptoms people can suffer from with seasonal allergies can include sneezing, headaches, earaches, runny or stuffy nose, as well as itchy eyes, throat, ears and sinuses.
We would like to share some tips on how to reduce your exposure to seasonal allergies as well as some remedies to help relieve your symptoms so you can enjoy the world around you just a little bit more.
Tips to reducing your seasonal allergy exposure.
- Stay indoors on dry, windy days
- Take extra care when pollen counts are high – Check your local TV station or weather App for pollen forecasts and current pollen levels
- Close your windows and doors at night when pollen counts are high
- Limit your mowing task if possible
Great ways to relieve allergy symptoms as we know it’s not always possible to avoid being outside.
- Rinse your eyes with cool water or saline drops to remove clinging pollen after you go inside
- Take a shower and change your clothes after you work or play outside
- Over the counter medications
- Doing a saline rinse on your nasal passages
If your seasonal allergies are more severe or over the counter products aren’t doing the trick for you, your doctor may have other recommendations such as some of the items below.
- Prescribed medications
- Prescribed eye drops
- Allergy shots (Immunotherapy treatment)
